H.eplying to the toast of the Parliament of New Zealand at the banquet to his Excellency the Governor at Balclutha on .-Saturday, Sir Joseph Ward incidentally referred to the utterance of Eprd LarisdoWne on the Anglojapiariesei Alliance, and said that he had no hesitation in saying that a general rfsseht would be given to that statesman's suggestion that the alliance should not only be renewed, but that it should be irtnmgthened. On the part of the other nations there was a large imbunt of jealousy of the prosperity' ami progression of the" British Empire, and it was necessary that nn alliance such as that existing with Japan should be continued and extended.
