SAN FRANCISCO MAILS.

In reference to a. recent London cable message stating that only three of the last eighteen San Francisco > mails had reached London to time, Messrs Burns, Philp and Co., the Australian agents for' the Oceanic Steamship Company, state that all were despatched a£ Sydney and Auckland, and that seventeen arrived at San Francisco to time, one only being a day .late. It is thus clear that the Oceanic Company did its part of the work well. The bulk of the New Zealand mails are for the United Kingdom, and the delay in their delivery there, whilst very regrettable, occurred on the voyage across the Atlantic. It is quite possible that the •mails could be on time at San Francisco and yet miss the fast steamer at New York. . ' . ... s - ■ ' , . •
