ATHLETIC.

A meeting of the committee of the Pioneer Amateur Bicycle and Athletic Club was held laet evening, Dr Thomas in tho chair. It was decided to hold the spring sports meeting on Saturday, November 19, and to continue it on the following Tuesday evening. A comprehensive -programme o£ thirty athletic and cycling events wus agreed to, including several scratch races. A three miles open steeplechase and a 220ydfl handicap for. boys attending secondary schools were also added, and a halfmile teams' race was substituted for the usual 220 yds race in the competition for the secondary schools' challenge cup. The contest 'between teams from retail houses in the city for the John Ballantyne cup, at present held by Ashby, Bergfo and Co.> team, will take place on Tuesday evening, November 22. Dr Thomas and Messrs E. E. Daniels, Ale*. Lowry/ A. J. Allard and A. Donaldson donated special prizes for. the meeting. It was resolved to ask'his Excellency the Governor to extend his patronage to the club.
