EYE-GLASSES FOR INEBRIETY.
OCULIST'S SUCCESS WITH A NOVEL TREATMENT. Dr Chalmers Prentice, a prominent Chicago oculist, addressing the National Opticians' Convention in Milwaukee (WisI consin) on August 3, declared that alcoholism can- be cured* by properly fitted eyeglasses. The doctor found after a long seri-es of examinations that^ inebriates generally suffer from certain deviations in the -accommodation and convergence of the eyes. He noticed in many cases that eyeglasses which remedy th«* derangements of vision have also the effect of decreasing the patient's appetite for liquor. , Dr Reentice described a caeeaof an inebriate being fitted with eye-glasses and losing all desire for strong drink after thirty daye. ... j
