TUESDAYS BATTLE.
GENERAL SaKAHAROFF'S ACCOUNT. JAPANESE ASSAULT REPULSED. (Received September 1, 9.1 a.m.) LONDON, August? 31. ' General Sakaharoff reporta that the battle lasted till nine afe night. The main attack was mad© on the centre and left, and a Russian counter attack culminated in a bayonet charge.. Many positions in the enemy's occupation were re-taken. The reserves repulsed a force attempting, at four in the afternoon, to turn the Russianright. During the artillery duel, the- batteries outranged the Japanese batteries. The General adds that the announcement that the Port Arthur garrison had repulsed all attacks had greatly raised the spirits of the troops. General Sakaharoff estimate* the Russian losses yesterday at 2000.
