VICTORIAN BUTTER COMMISSION.

At the Butter Commission Mr Thomas Webb, ex-Minister of Agriculture and formerly manager of .the Fresh Food Storage Company, gave evidence that, after the scheme to compel the shipping companies to reduce butter freights had fallen through, the agents of the shipping companies at Hfcne arranged with a representative of the Bartram Company to pay brokerage of 3 per cent on all shipments, Bartram's agent agreeing tp pay to Mr Webb one-third of this brokerage. Two thousand seven hundred pounds was paid over in the names of two employees of the Fresh Food Company, with whom Mr Webb divided. Mr Webb admitted that the total amount paid to the shipping companies in ihe shape of brokerage might have been over £12,000.
