MAN'fl EAR BITTEN OFF. [Per Press Association.] WESTPORT, August 18. A Swiede named David Petersen, a sailor on the Pnkaki, informed: tho police that an aggravated assault had been committed on him in the forecastle of the Pukaki. He alleged that a fight had occurred, in which be and two Italians were concerned, and tnat one of the Italians had bit off a portion of his left ear. Petersen declined to give further information, because an action for assault would delay the ship, which was about to sail for Lyttelton. Dr M'Kenzie dressed the wound and the other injuries that Petersen had sustained about the face, ajid retained the severed portion of the ear. It is understood that action will be taken when the,Pukaki reaches Lyttelton. .
