The 'Appeal : Court this mbrning decided that Municipal Corporations had power to make by -laws prohibiting the use of traction engines in. certain streets, even, if all access to parts of the town wais thereby cut otf. The case was rai&ed by the owners of traction engines which have been a fea- . ture recently in the streets of Wellington, and have given rise to loud, complaints. Mr Justice Williams was still unable to take -his. seat at -tie. Appeal 'Court to-dfiy, but the Bench decided to go on with a • casfeih which.. the Eastern Extension Company -appeals against the- .Commissioner of Tases' claim to levy income tax on certain reve«nu«6 wihich it* claims are not derived from New (Zealabd. , ]Vrr Napier is now arguing m 'behalf of the Commissioner.
