Gray), in his rooms. Among those present were the town- clerk (Mr H. R. Smith)/ the. cit-y engineer (Mr A. D. Dobson), the president of the /Canterbury Football Association (Mr C. J. Ward), and several members of the Association. : 4 • Mr Gray said that it gave him great pleasure to welcome a team of footballers ffoai Now Strath- Wales. Though they had come in unfortunate weather, he hoped that their stay in- Christ-church Would lie a pleasant one, and; he fejt sure that the local Association footballers Would endeavour to maintain the. city's reputation for hospitality: He hoped also that thelocal players Avotild g*ve thc^r visitors a hard Struggle on the football field. At the Mayor's invitation the health of the visitors was honoured. The nianoger of the team, Mr P. W. Robinson, replied to the' toast, thanking the Mayor for his courteous reception, and expressing! the pleasure of his team at having been able to visit Chrtetchurch. He pfopo&ed the health of the Mayor, which Was Honoured by the members of the team, three dlieers being civen for his Worship. Mi' Ward, on" behalf &f the Canterbury Association, also thanked the Mayor for his kindiitfis in welcoming the team. In the course of a brief chat with Mr, Robinson, a reporter learned that the team has been exceedingly well pleased with its reception in each of the towns visited. The hospitality of New Zealand has impressed the players with very kindly memoriss of their tour, and they are almost perfectly satisfied. Their one regret is that they lost their match in Wellington. MrRobinaon sa-ystkat the New South Welshmen had all the best of the game, or at least of tworthirds of it, and had very hard luck -in getting beaten. They had a, bad "•round toaplay on, and the superior weight Of the Wellington" men told against the visitors. The Wellington players use their Weight to the utmost advantage, and the Wet ground was in their favour; Mr Robinson thinks that the local team should have the advantage in to-morrow's game^ as the visitors ate more used to fin© weather, and a heavy ground and ball spoil their combination. The match will be played at Lancaster Park bb-morf bw afternoon, beginning at three f o'clock. • V The teams will be as follow:— New South Wales— Goal, Spencer; full-bdcks, Thorpe and M'Mahon ; halves^ Condon, Hilder and Timinis; forwards, Harris, Moore, Waddeli, Medcalfe and Carejv CanteAury— Goal-keeper, Rawlinson (Syd- ! enham) ; right back, Cornish, l^ydenham) ; left back, Spong (Christchufch) ; right half, Wilson (Christchurch) ; centre naif, Perks (ChristchUroh) ; left half, 1 R.
