Mills from the Colonial Department of tie Government of Hokkaido Sapporoj Japan, under date March 29 last, the Japanese Commissioners who were *ent- by their Government to inquire into our institutions, and. **&« prospects I of trade between this colony and Japan, acknowledge with hearty thanks the receipt of various Government publications which Mr Mills has sent to them since their return. Owing to its voluminousness, and to the pressure of other wwortk t thedT report, they «ay, T^ill probably not be finished before August next, when they will have much pleasure in xeciprocating his. kindness by sending the Minister a copy. They were so delighted with the official Year Book issued by the Registrar-General that; they ask Mr 'Mills to send' it to them regularly. Their letter concludes a« follows: — "It is just a year ago since w-e visited your country, and had! the pleasure of meeting you. How w«U we recollect now and then,' the kindness of your people and: the beauties of Mature in your country. Our country is now at war with Russia, iut wo are making every effort to bring pea» again to the, Far Ee»b, in the shine of the rising sun. We are thankful to the British, a* well as to the Americans, for their warm sympatlhies."
