The Grand National Steeplechase is increased to 1000 boys, and the Grand National Hurdle Race to 700 soys, the other increases being spread over "the minor events. The Wellington Racing Club is doing everything in ife* power to push on its scheme for the construction of a railway line of its own to the racecourse at the Hutt. The survey of ihe proposed route is to be taken in hand by the G.vern'ment engineers as socta. as the Public Works Dopartmen't has completed the plans for straightening the railway between Wellington and the Hutt, and the club hopes to be in a po3iti/xn to approach Parliament for the necessary powers within the first weok of -the eeesion.- The cost of tho railway is estimated at about -25,000, end the club '&t&tes that it can arrange to find thfct amount of money without* any difficulty.
