The Kinshimaru's soldiers burnt their documents and removed their shoulderstraps to prevent the Russians from ascertaining the name of their regiment. A fierce twenty-five minutes' fight preceded the abandonment of Antung. Fugitives who have reached Chefoo report that the Russians axe preparing to evacuate Dalny. -•■- , General Kuropatkin, in a despatch to tiie | Czar, expresses his satisfaction that the j : Japanese have crossed the* Yalu, thus ■ lengthening their lines of communication, j while the Russians are nearer their base. A member of the general staff states that I the Yalu engagements are merely skirmishes, and that General Kuropatkin will [ not accept a serious .battle until the middle " of May, when he will have half a miUioiv of men at his disposal.
