PARLIAMENTARY HUMOUR.
The following gentle badinage took place between the irrepressible Willie Redmond and the Conservative member for Bermondsey during the first debate in the House of Commons on the Chinese labour question : — Mr Cust: "We have had a great and memorable war in South Africa." Mr Willie Redmond: "Now, somebody sing 'Rule Britannia!"' Mr Cust: "A Chinaman is a Chinaman because he cannot help it. A man should not be penalised for congenital defects." Mr Redmond: " That's- all right. We don't mind you." Mr Cust: "The Chinaman drinks less alcohol than anybody." Mr Redmond ; "That cau't be said of the Tory Party."
