THIS DAY. [Psb th» " Stab's " Pigbom Exprbss-1 The attendance was. good, and included a large number of farmers. Supplies of all classes of stock wei*e also good. Fat Cattle.— About 200 head were penned, including eome very prime beef. The sale opened slowly but improved as it advanced, and at tbe close previous week's rates were current. The market was topped by six steers from Mr A. Birdlirig, Lansdowne-, which realised from £11 10s to £12 ss, other steers fetching £6 5s to £10 12s 6d. Fifteen heifers from Messrs D. and A. Macfarlane, Lyndon, made from £6 to £7 15s, others selling at from £5 , 15s to £8 7s 6cl. Cows brought from £5 15s to £8 15s. Per 1001b beef, at the close, sold at the rate of 18s to 22s 6d. Fat Calves. — A good entry met a fair demand. Good suckers brought from 30s to 50s, and others from 10s upwards. Fat Sheep. — There was a moderate entry! The «aie opened with good spirit at firmly maintained "prices. Fat Lambs. — The entry was about . an average in number, and included some very prime lote. Competition: was extreme-ly animated, and 1 an improvement on the previous week's values was established. The best freezing lambs brought from 16a to 17s 4d, an extra heavy line of 120 from Mr Thos. Greig, Kirwee, making 18s, lighter sorts, but still of freezing quality from 14s 6d. Store Sheep. — A. MI entry met a-'very keen demand, and previous rates were fully maintained. - Pigs. — The*e was a large entry, including a consignment of stores from Chatham Islands, mostly Tamworth cross, rough in quality and poor in condition, which had the effect of depreciating prices in -this department.' Fat pigs were firm. Baooners sold at 45s to 545. one pen to 58s 6d, equal to 4^d per lb ; porkers 33s to 425, or 4£d to 5d per lb ; large stores 16s to 255, weaners 10s to 15s.
