* — :— FREEHOLD VERSUS LEASEHOLD^. [Per Pbbsß Association.] MARTON, April 6. The Farmers' Union picnic, held uncle* the auspices of the Marten branch, brought together a great gathering of people at Wesloe yesterday. The neighbouring branches of the Union assisted in making tne affair a success. Addresses were given by Mr W. J. Birch, chairman of the Marton branch; Mr J. G. Wilson, president of the New Zealand Union? Mr A. Ev Remington, M.H.R. for Rangitikei; Mr J. Vile, M.H.R. for Manawatu; and Mr A. D. Willis, M.H.R. for Wanganui. All the speakers but Mr Willis strongly supported tne freehold question. The member for 'Wanganui defended the leasehold, and Mr J. G. Wilson replied on behalf of the free* . hold, pointing out that Mr Willis hinuttf was a freeholder. .
