Mr C. W. Willsteed, A.M.1.C.E., a nephew of Mr W. S. Wills-teed of this city, has been appointed by the Lords Commissioners of Ihe Admiralty schoolmaster tf> boy (artificers at Devor.port Dockyard. Mr Willstfced, who is a- native of Portsmouth, has been Manual Instructor in Engineering under the London,' School Board j. and has also <Jone good -work a.s teacher of niaichine constructiori ajid steam at the Gravesend Technical Institute, Major N. L. D ? Smith, who. has retired from the Defence Department, was presented with a smoker's outfit by members of the clerical staff of the Commandant's Office, Wellington, on Friday evening. The following were passenger^ to Hanmer Springs to-day: — Mr, Mrs and Miss Lonargan and Miss M. Murray, Christr church 5 Mr W. N. Bairron, Dunedin. Dr Anderson and Messrs Wood and Ritchie will leave for Wellington Jp-night tp attend the Conference of School Inspectors.
