CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, February 1. (Before Mr W. R. Haselden, S.M.) Dei-ai'LT Cases.— ln the following case* the defendiinte did not- appear, and judgment was given for the plaintiffs for the amounts claimed with costs :— New Zealand Piano Company (Mr Rolleston) v. A. C. Wolff, "claimed £29 ss ; Ellen Creswell (Mr Harvey) vi A l . Campbell, £3 15s; Drapery Importing Company v. M. S. Black, £12 11s 6d ; samov. James Shewin,, £1 14s; Susan Novis, (Mr Leathern) VAlfred Downing, £2 18s. Claim J?or Wages.— lsaac H, Hunter (Mr Cassidy) sued W. Wanstall (Mr Wesr ton) for the sum of £1 12s, for wages in connection with repairs to a window. A considerable amount of evidence was give?, from which it appeared that the plaintiff undertook to make certain alterations to a window, the charge to : cover cost of labour and material. The plaintiff, however, denied that he agreed to supply the beading and moulding required. The witnesses fc the defendant maintained that the work was performed in an unsatisfactory manner. Judgment was given for 16s and costs, ss. \ ' . Damages. for AssAm/r.-^George William Bradshaw (Mr Fippenberger) sued Edward Charles Chegwin and Robert Hall (Mr Russell) for the *-urn of £30 as damages for an assault committed in August last- The case was previously before the Court, but was then : withdrawn on the advice of counsel, and a civil action for damages was instituted. The plaintiff said that' on August 2.6" last, aDout 11 o'clock at night, he was in the neighbourhood of the Wellington Hotel, when he was hailed by Chegwin, who ascused him (witness) of playing " low down " in inducing his son to go away. He then struck witness with his fist, and Hall, who was with Chegwin, struck witness across the face witto a hunting crop. Sev€ral witnesses were called who gave corroborative evidence, and counsel for the defendants admitted that an assault had been committed. Dr Mickle said that on August 27 Bradshaw consulted him. He found his face slightly swollen, but not to any serious extent. There were some slight abrasions of, the skini and Bradshaw complained of pain in the jaw. Witness could not discover any further injuries. Bradshaw consulted him on only one occasion.
