I LANCASTER PARK CLUB. T!bo Lancaster Park Amateur ■ Swimming Club 'held its annual carnival .bis aiternoot*.. A 'heavy shower of rain just before tlhe hour of '-starting, probably spodß th. attendance, but tho sun sooA shone out again-, and the afternoon was veiy pleasant.. There were. large fields in most of tho event., and competition Wa. keen, many of the finishes beirg very close. Variety waa given tp- lihe programme by tiho inclusion of a " tigfbt-rope perfon__noe" by Mr. James Driscoll. Mr Driscoll went t_roug_ some clever evolutions, and while balancing himself on the wire, undresed. An exhibition of diving from- a " chute by jundor members was well earned out, a_jd a diving competition in tfcree Styles added largely to" lihe success oi the carnival. The following are the results: — JUNIOR. DASH, 25yds— First heat: H. Cai-ui-ers, Ssec, 1; R. Irvine, 3sec, 2. J. Burroughs, lsec, O. Mer-tan. Ssec, aad W. 'Cameron, Bsec also started. Won by a yard. Time — 18 3-sse_. Second heat: H. Owen, 4sec, 1; H. __owari_, Ssec, 2. 11. O'Brien 6_ec, G. Bradley 6seo and G-. Strong. 7sec also started. Won by a foot. Time— 2l_sec. . _<a__ heat : IN. Sturrock, 2sec, 1; T. O'Keefe, 4sec, 2. J. Rodgers ser, E. Clark 4eec and G. Dixon Ssec also started. Won by a yard. Time— l7sec. Final: N. Sturrock, 2soc, 1; H. Carrutaers, Ssec, 2. -R. M'Dow-\ all 2. Six .bar-led. The competitors, fully dressed, swam three times 'across the baitih, Newton winning very ea.iiy. No time was fcaken. IiNTER-CLUB HANDICAP, . 50yds— First handicap: C. Lancaster Park No 1 lOsec, Christchurch 19sec and Opawa 2_seo aiso Bbarted, The five members f the scratch team swam very well, and had, made up their nandicap when the -test lap was reached. They won very easily by about fiveiyaxd*. There was a great struggle ior second place, Richmoad iust beating Lancaster Park ana Chnstcaurch. Time— 2mm 51_sec. Second heat: Sydenham, Ssec, 1; East Chris-ichurch No. 2, 4seo 2. East Christchurch No. 3 13sec and Lv-nf-astt- Park No. 2 24sec also started. En-i-erin*. vhe latt lap Sydenham had & lead of five or six yards. F. Drake, for East Christ, church No. 2, made up a little more ground, but Gili, the fifth Sydenham representative, swam strongly and won by 'three yards. Time — 3min 3sec. Final: East Christchurch No. 1 (H. S. Williams, M. Wauchop, L. A. Shand, H. H. Wauchop and V. Drake), ser, 1; Sydenham (J. Howison, H. Brinkman, A. M. Russell, H. E. Sherwood and E.E. Gill), Ssec, 2. East Christchurch No. 2 4seo and Richmond 6sec also started. Sydenham and Richmond were together in the lead at the beginning of the second lao, but Richmond got away on the (third lap with a lead of two yards from Sydenham, while East Christohurch No. 1 had swum into third, place. Sydenham, and East Christohurch No. 1 both passed Richmond before the fourth lap was begun, and East Christchurch was leading by a yard when the -Last lap was entered. V. Dmaike (East Christchurch) increased the lead from Gill (Sydenham) and won- by five yards, With Richmond •three yards away third. Time— 2mm 50sec. DIVING FOR PLATES— H.Depby 1, F. Sinclair 2. Seven others competed. Denby ■and Sinclair tied with six plates each. In the final dive, a very difficult one, Denby secured five plates and Sinclair four.
_. The Sydenham Amateur Swimming Club held a 50yds race yesterday evening. Mr C. Kent was starter, and Messrs G. Reese, F. S. Hall and E. Hulbert were the judges. Following are results :— First heat: H. Sherwood 1. -A. 'M. Russell, H..Brinkman and J. Howison also started. Second heat : L. Thomas 1. N.- Reese, C. Mearns, G. Howison and E. E. Gill .also started. Third .heat : J. Hamilton 1. W. Walls, P. Campbell, S.^CooT- and D. Jones also started. Fourth heat : ll.*' Mortimer 1. W. "Cook, E. Hulbert, R.. Gibbs and J. Lumby also started. Fifth heat: C. Bryant 1. 0. Wright, W: Peryer and L. Olliver also started. Final heat:' L. Thomas 1, H. Sherwood 2. C. Bryant. J. Hamilton and R. Mortimer also started.
