THE PENNY MAGAZINE.

The want of a weekly magazine of local interest is doubtless felt by many, but by judiciously spending the sum of one penny that want may be easily supplied each Saturday. The- "Star" on Saturdays partakes of a specially magazine character, and <ontiins a number of items to interest and entertain within the scope of its eight- wellfilled pago?. In to-morrow's issue a> further instalment of Frank Bairrett's stirring novel, " TJxe Honorable Miss Juda«,' f appears, and this tale will continue in liberal instalments until its close. The other items of interest to the general reader are: — "Thorny Crowns," "Treasure Trove," "New York's Milk_ Supply," "Limbless Wonders," "Archbishop Nuttall," an appreciation q{ one of the greatest divines of the day, and "The Secret of the Ganges." The pages specially set apart for ladies' reading contain a very chatty article on " A Populajr Authoress," to wit, Mrs L. T. Mead, "The Elixir of Love," " Up-tb-daffe Dancing^" and the usual interesting selections contained in tEe 'columns entitled "Roman's World," and "Household Hints." "Work for the Week," the special domain of the gardener, will be found to contain a numtter of valuable hints for the season just to hand. The "Wo€k" still maintains its reputation for i raciness, and in the " Bandsmen's Column " will be found some items of interest gathered from all sources. . The* other magazine features axe comprised in the "Brief Mention," and "Fun and Fancy" column*, which are, as usual, up-to-date in every respect. Apart from these special features, the day's doings all over the world are not neglected. The news by cable and telegraph is published, besides the paragraphs and articles gathered by the strong reporting, editorial and corresponding staffs; and tlje latest intelligence is thus presented with each edition, of which there are three; cne at three o'clock, for country readers j one at four o'clock, for city and suburban subscribers ; and the special edition at eight o'clock, winch contains all the latest athletic an<j general news.
