A CHILD NO ONE WANTED.
INHUMAN CONDUCT. The miserable fate of a riine-mont-hs-old child who died in Newihgton Workhdils© was told! last month in the Southwark Coroner's Court. The mother, a singlte woman named' Alice PHtttheli, was refused admission to i Whiteclia.pel shelter because the child had bronchitis. So she gave it, to a little girl named Rose Jonee to tdke to Mrs Cox, Flockton Street, the sister-in-law of the baby's father; Mrs Cox was already caring for three children born in wedlock to her brothef-in-laWj A widower, so she refused the baby. The little girl took it to her own mother, who took ifc to Mrs Cox again.. The baby was tfcen laid by Mrs Cox in Mrs Jones's passage, whereupon Mrs Jones laid it in Mrs' Ctiix°s passage. At midnight a policeman intervened; The liaplesß infant died in tihe workhouse. The jtii-y found, that death Was ilue to "natural causes." _ v
