■ • ■ [Per Prbss Association.] WELLINGTON, June 11. The Australian Widows' Fund Offices, a building of three storeys, situated on Customhouse Quay, opposite the Bank of. New Zealand, were destroyed by fire last night. Among the tenants were Messrs M'Kee and Gamble, the well-known firm of printers. The Wellington Branch of the Young Men's Christian Association also had its quarters on tho premises. Nothing was saved. The insurance on the building was in the Guardian Office, and was for £2500. ' There was also a policy in the same office for £300 against .the rent on the building and another for £300 on -a brick buildingi at the back of the main premises, occupied by Messrs Hayland and Kean, not touched by the fire. The Guardian Office distributed its risks among other offices— £soo in the Yorkshire, £363 6s 8d in the North British and £300 in the South British. The office fittings and furniture were insured in the Phoenix Office for £200. Messrs M'Kee and Co. had policies for £100 each in the South British, North Queensland and New Zealand Offices. Mr Gooch, who estimates his loss at £100, was insured for £60 in the Royal Exchange Office. Mr Smith's furniture was insured for £150 in the South British Company,, and his books for £30 in the Pbconix Company. Messrs Chambers and Co.'s stock was covered by a policy for £500 in the United Office. The Young Men's Christian Association's new pia.no was insured for £50 and the remainder of the furniture, etc., for £40.
