Patrick Knowles, a ten-year>old match* seller, was remanded at Stockton-on-Lees for decoying and murdering a fifteen-months-old baby. He confessed: that&e ■diug a- hole in the sand and laid the crying baby on its back, lifted its pinafore over it« face and then t covering it with sand, smothered it, while it continued to cry and kick. He afterwards piled: brickß and ■stones over tihe place. ' The prisoner was arrested while taking a second baby to th< same spot. "^V
