A MYSTERIOUS VISITANT.
A fortnight ago it was unknown— such a thing had never been heard of in the colony, much lesa in sober-staid Christchurch. Yet already it has become an integral part of the social life of our residents. A universal crazo but mildly expresses the position. Business men give up their time to ify boys and' girls on their way home from school form knots and compare notes concerning it, factory ,girls talk of little ' else, th© pretty servant holds converse with the bold butcher on some debatable feature, and finally when darkness brings the closure to ordinary occupations the members of the family, before dvon thd dishes can be cleared away, get out their paper and settle down to a. long evening at the new craze. No more shall carpets be worn to shreds, pianos and chairs be ruined by the übiquitous ping-pong, or card gamea at ft penny ft corner hold sway. This has all been changed, and the recreation of the hour is the " Cantfcrbury Times " Picture Puzzle Competition. £50 in prizes, and to secure a share is within tibe reach of all who have had a fair ran<*e of reading and a discerning wit to readily grasp an allegorical suggestion.
