A WELCOME FROM THE BAR. . This morning, before the business of the Magistrate's Court was commenced, Mr H. J 4 Eeswick, president of the District Law Society, extended a Welcome, on behalf of the Ohristchurch Bar, to Mr W. R. Haselden, S.M., who succeeds Mr R. Beetham as resident Stipendiary Magistrate of Christchurch. Mr Bes-vrick apologised first of all for not having extended a welcome to his Worship on the previous day, tlio first upon which he sat as Resident Magistrate in Christchurch. He Assured Mr Haselden that he would have the cordial support of the Bar, who would do ail in their power to assist his Worship in the carrying out of his duties. Mr Haselden, in reply, thanked 1 Mr Beswick and the gentlemen of the Bar very sincerely for the courtesy they had shown ix^ welcoming him that morning. 'He continued that he 'had 'been admitted in 1872, and. they would find his name on th& record of Whatwas then known ia Chriatchuroa as the College. He had been in active practice 'for.twenty*five years, and, after some wandering, had returned/ to his legal birthplace. He hoped they should all be very good' friends, and thanked them once more fjwc their kind reception of himself.
