There is a better tone in the lamb market this week, and the average prices to-day of New Zealand lamb are:TT-Canterbury brand 4|d per lb; ibrandg other than Canterbury 4£d. The beef market is quiet, with stocks of New Zealand on hand light and quotations nominal, as follow : — Hindquarters 4jjd, f orequarters 3^d. The butter market is dull at 95s per cwt ; Danish 9,75. The cheese market is steady at 66s per owf; ; ' new Canadian 60s. The hemp market is quieter j good fair Wellington grade, on spot, is worth £35 per ton ; May shipments £32 10s ; October-December shipments £30. Buyers are not keen to do business in. cocksfoot seed, and holders are firm. The 1 average price to-day of bright, clean News Zealand, weighing 171 b per bushel, on spot, is nominally 45s per cwt."
