A BLOODHOUND AS AN ACCUSER.
SCENE AFTER A MYSTERIOUS
MURDEK.
While 'Mrs Willard/ ©att and her two sisters were playing tho piano and shiging in their home in Pike County, Indiana, a bullet ■ -crashed! through the window. Mrs Catt sank to the floor in a dying condition, the bullet having entered her brain. Tbe murderer escaped in the darkness.
'Search parties were organised, a United States Marshal named Sumpfcer taking a bloodhound alon£. Suspicion rested on Willard Catt, tbe woman's divorced husband, but Mr Catt, his father, and other relatives joined in the search. When the bloodhound was taken to tha scene of the crime be started on a trail fading to the Catts' home. When- this was reached, the animal tijr.ued.nnd l le-dJ tho searchers until tbey overtook the party beaded: by Mr Catt. Tbo bloodhound 'stopped/ and. was about to leap on Mr Caffc when Mr Sumpter held 'him back. The two parties .started to continue tb« s search,_ b*t the bloodhound re/used to go further.' I,fc circled around Mr Catt and again tried to- jumip afc him. Mr Catt was ultimately arrested and charged with tho -murder. He recused to make any statement.
