THE £10CO. HA=N T DiIOAP. Australian 'files to hand bring details of the racing -which took place on Saturday aftcrnoon, March 7, and the eveninga oi March 11 and 12. " The attendances on these dates were 6000, 8000 and 9000 respectively. On Saturday, A. C. Forbes, from 20yds, ■Won h& heat in a Two-mile ~ Handicap in I 4min 13 2-sseo, but was not placedin the final. In tho fifth heat of the SydnQy Thousand, from 10yds, h& gained' second place in lmin 59sec, and later on was beaten for first place: in a heat of the Kent Plate, one-mile scratch race, .-by J. Fiisell. On March 11 he took third place . from 20yds in the fourth heal* of the One-mila First-class Handicap, won^n lmin 58 3-sse, but did not secure a 'place' in the final. I>. J. Plunkett, 160yds, on the first day secured second place in a Tvra-mile Handicap heat, but was unplaced in the final, and, despite liberal handicaps, he met with, no- success on the succeeding evenings. In the eighth heat of the Sydney " Thousand" he had- 90yds start, but was unplaced. \ George '^Sutherland , started in., the third heat of the Two-mile Handicap, but it wa& run. in 4mitt 8 S-ssec, and With the other baokmarkers, he failed to catch the limit men. In the third heat of the Kent Plate he was beaten by: It. W. Lewi3, and he was also an unplaced' competitor in a Five-mile Scratch Eace. On' March 11 he won his heat of the Mile First-class Handicap from the 10yds mai^k, after a great finish with E. A. Pye, 20ydS, in lmin 59 l-ssec. In the finai, run in lmin 57 l-ssec,he took third place behind' Walker 10yds and E. Cameron 60yds. He rode unplaced in a Fivemiies Scratch Race, after lying in a handy position throughout. On March 12 he competed in the seventh heat of the Sydney " Thousand " from the syds mark^ and was ! beaten by a length and" a half by M'Dosald, 10yds, after a magnificent finish. R. Mutton 25yds was third, E. Ty T . Lewis 40yds fourth. Time— 2min 0 2-sssc. C. E. Burton on. the first day beat E. Walne for first place\in, the sixth heat of the Itent Plate, but %vas unplaced: in the | Five-miles Scratch Race. s . Oa March. 11 he was unplaced in the first heat of the Sydney Thousand Handicap, -baing unlucky enough to strike a heat comprising such top-notch-eTs as Pye, Morgan and Beauchanap. On the same night from 40yds, he won the fourth heat of the Mile First-class Handicap in lmin 58 3-ssec, but was unplaced in the final. The following evening he won the second heat of a Half-mile Handicap from 15yds in. s!f l-ssec, but was unplaced in the final, and was second to Don Walker in the second semi-final heat of the Kent Plate. Maurice Randrup was an unplaced competitor in a drive-miles Scratch Race on March 11, and could not get nearer tjian fourth in his heat of the Sydney Thousand the following evening. . ■On the first day J. Chalmers was defeated in the Kent Plate by G. R. Morgan, and was an unplaced competitor in the Five-railes Scratch Race. On March 11, from 35yds, he won the third -heat of 4jhe Sydney Thousand Handicap by half a length in, 2min\ 2 3-ssec. Amongst other competitors Major Taylor naturally attracted most attention, and he gave some grand exhibitions, of riding. On, MaTch 7 he started from scratch with Walker syds and Walne 15yds as his- nearest attendants, in the fourth heat of the Sydney .Thousand. The trio failed to agree about pacing, and Taylor sprinted away from, the ojher two at a tremendous psu?e to catch the field, and just succeeded in running into third place, Don Walker being fourth. . He- won the eighth heat of the Kent Plate easily from R. Mutton. On March 11 he was a competitor in the first heat of the Mile First-class Handicap, but after exhibiting . extraordinary pace at the- commencement, and catching the field easily, a punctured tyre compelled him to leavo the truck. Later he came out and won the Five-miles Scratch Race by two lengths from J. Megson and E. F. Wilksch. The following evening he won a heat and final of a Half-mile Handicap, his time being 58 2-55&5 and 56 2-ssec respectively. He also won the first semi-final heat of the Kent Plate very comfortably. . . Dott Walker won the final heat of the First-class' Handicap in lmin 57 l-"ssee, and also the preliminary and semi-final heats of the K«nt Plate. . \
