ELITE BAND.
(Conductor : Mr Arthur Dugganj) Sydenhamifces and the Councillors are to be congratulated upon the popularity of their municipal concerts. The Canterbury Engineers', Derry's and the Elite Bands have done well, and last Wednesday's music by the Elite Band was a credit to the conductor and members. The programme was as follows: — March, " Paragon " (Geo. Southwell) ; waltz, "Fond Memories" (H. Round); contest selection, "Satanella" (Balfe) ; fchottische, " Lovebirds " (S. Potter); fantasia-, "Con Amore" (Enscbell) ; march, "Escort" (J. Ord-Hume) ; 'intermezzo, "Hypatia." (J. Ord-Hume); " Home Sweet Home," " Auld Lang Syne " and " God Save the King." Since the opening of the Sydenham concsrts, which tookplace at the beginning of the" season, the Elite Band has given seven performances and played fifty items. The growth of the Elite' Band is quite' an object lesson to bandsmen. . Fortune did not smile too broadly on the puny organisation, which v-as the outcrop of a temperance band, butt the quiet workers have plodded along, and the vicissitudes of the Polite have been oyer-
come to such an extent that the band ha* H now attained a fine position. At SydenluutfH the band has added to it? legion of friends^H and the future has brigh*' prospects— " Ki»«B ora Elite." • . ■
