There had 'beei. some agitation in favour of representative government! which fanned the excitement. The Council. Chamber was stoned by the andfb and some members nvere wounded. The Riot Act was read -twice* The Government haa appointed a Commission of Inquiry. (The crowd, who were forbidden to enter the Council Chamber, at Port of Spain, to protest a^aSisfc the/ adoption of a Watei 'Bill, stoned* the windows and burnt the Government Buildings. The police fired on the mob to clear the way and escort the Governor and members of the Counoil from the buildings. Several of the mob Veta killed or wounded, A detachment of bluejackets from H.M.S.
