The chief duty of the meeting was the election of a director, and Mr William Watson, the retiring director, being the only candidate nominated, was duly elected. The Chairman poiiited out that the meeting was merely held under the terms of the deeds of settlement, and that lio accounts would be presented, bub he said he had no reason to doubt that oh March 31 the directors would be able to present as satisfactory a balance-sheet as they presented last year. He congratulated farmers on the improved prices obtained for their produce, ' and also the shareholders of the bank on the fact that the shares were again sought after at par, or slightly above that figure. This fact was good evidence amongst others of the credit which the bank enjoyed. With reference to proposed arrangements of the bank in connection with the maturing of 1 the guarantee and other matters affecting it in its relations with the Government, the Chairman said that these matters were now under consideration, and the directors had no doubt that a satisfactory arrangement would be concluded. Regret was expressed at the resignation of Mr J. Einbling, the general manager, and the Chairman said that, so far, the vacancy had not been filled, but meanwhile Mr A. Mitchie, manager of the Dunedin branch, who enjoys the entire confidence of the Board, would administer affairs at the head office. The meeting only lasted a few minutes. Votes of thanks were passed to the directors. In replying, the Chairman said he thought the directors had started on the right track, and if they had good times and fair luck, he anticipated further prosperity. . . ;
