Sixteen-inch American coast defence guns have been successfully tested- at Sandj^ Hook. (Received Jan. 20, 9.9 a.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. 19. America is building forty-four new coast defence guns. The projectile weighs 24001 b and the smokeless powder charge is 6401 b, giving a velocity of 2300 ft and a pressure of 38,0001 b. The guns will have a range of twenty miles and be effective at five miles.
