OTAGO CRIMINAL STATISTICS.

[From Our Correspondent.] DUNEDIN, Jan. 19. The criminal cases reported in Otago itf 1902 totalled 981, as against 936 reported in 1901. There was an increase of 16 in charges of common assault, a decrease of 51 in breaches of the peace ; an increase, of 6^ jn cases of deserting or failing to provide for wives and children, an increase of 15 in desertions from vessels, an increase of 43 in cases of disifbcying orders of the Court, if decrease of 69 in drunkenness, an increase of 14 in gaming offences, a decrease of \O iv indecent exposures, an increase of 16 in cases of neglected criminal children, an in* crease of 18 in thefts (undescribed), and a decrease of 10 in ca&es of vagrancy.
