The question of impure food is attracting great attention in New York, and one of the newspapers has employed an expert to analyse the various articles of diet in the menu of an ordinary day's food. The following table gives the result of the researches, the poisons being placed in parentheses :■ — BREAKFAST. Smoked Beef (borax), Stewed in Cream (borio acid). Codfish Cukes Cborax). Milk (formaldehyde). Maple Syrup (consisting of glucose preserved with £'ii!phuToU3 acid). Sausages (borax). LUNCH. C.am Broth (borax). Cold Tongue <iliicxido and borax). Jam (salicylic acid). Cider (salicylic acid). DINNER. Cocktail (with cherry preserved; -with snlphuTou.s acid). 'Hamburger Steak (sulphites). Tomato Catsup (benzoic acid and 1 en iline dyes). Canned Com ('benzoic acid). Claret (salicylic acid').
