LYTTELTON REGATTA.
* The well-known yacht Waitangi, belonging to Mr G. Jorgenson, is to leave Wellington this evening for Lyttelton in charge of J. M'Lean, in order to compete in the First-class Yacht Race in the Lyttolton Eegatta on. New Year's Day. The Regatta Committee has succeeded in obtaining a vessel of considerable size to be blown up by the submarine explosion on New Year's Day. They have secured for the purpose the hull of the steamer Jane, which in years gone by traded between Dunedin and Port Chalmers, afterwards in Wellington Harbour, and later still between Lyttelton and the bays of Banks Peninsula. The vessel has been on the Harbour Board's slip at Lyttelton for a long time, and on Monday was sold' by auction by the Board " for rent." Certain appurtenances realised £6, and the hull of the old steamer was knocked down for a shilling (probably the lowest price, ever paid for a vessel) to a representative of the Board. It was then handed over to the Regatta Committee to be destroyed by Captain Falconer's mine.
