The quantity of mutton going into consumption at present is very small. Tho average price to-day for Canterbury mutton is 5-^d, and for North Island s£d. The lamb market is quiet. The average price of" New Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand, is s§d. The beef market is dull. Supplies of American chilled beef are large. New Zealand hindquarters sd, forequarters 4d. The butter market is lifeless. There are heavy supplies of butter on hand. The price of butter today is from 110s, to 113s per cwt. ' The cheese market is very firm, and. the price is 59s per cwt. The hemp market is steady, 'good, fair Wellington,'^ grade on spot, £32 10s per ton, January and March shipments £28 10s per ton."
