CRICKET.
A DIFFICULTY SOLVED. United Press Association — By Electeio Telegraph — Copyright. (Received Dec. 23, 9.12 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Dec. 23. Ah a meeting of the Victorian Cricket Association a letter signed by Darling and Trumble was read, stating that the Australian Eleven had unanimously decided not to play with Worrall, owing to the Phillips incident. Ik also s,tated thab Phillips had showed Worrell's letter to them. Worrall made a statement, in which he said that he did not know what the letter contained. He had written to Phillips for a copy <5f it. What he wrote was at Phillips's solicitation. He declared he had fallen into a trap. If he had said anything derogatory to the players he thereupon publicly and openly recanted, and admitted he had made a mistake. He added the whole thin^ was a deliberate t attempt to ruin 'him. 7 After a lengthy discussion, Worrall announced that he intended voluntarily to withdraw from the current season's inter-State engagements, and the difficulty thus ended. (The reason given for the action of the Australian Eleven is that when the Eleven was in England, Worrall wrote to the umpire Phillips, urging him, if he wished to make a name for himself, to no-ball Noble and Saunders, on^the ground that their deliveries were unfair.)
