OTAGO v. CANTERBURY.

Ofcago will be represented against Canterbury this weejk 'by Baker, Downes, Johnston, Fisher, Mills, Siedeberg, Austin, Howden> Gummingsj Williams and Gunthorp. Those who have not previously played for the province are Howcten, Cummings and' Gunthorpe. Howden is a useful bat, who hits clean and hard, but is very elow between the, wickets. Cummings is th« most promising batsman amfcng our young cricketers. H© has won his way into representative company by his batting performances during the present season. He is a -useful field. Gunthorpe has shown good farm with the bat and ball this season. The following team will represent Canterbury aeainst Otago:— A. Sims, F. S. Frankish, ~W. H. C. Wigley, J. D. Lawrence, C. W. Garrard, R. Strange, S. Orchard, 0. Boxshall, W. Howell,' T. WReese and A. Kinvig. The majority of the Canterbury team leave by to-morrow's express for the south to play their annual game with Otago. On the way down the team will 'play a oneday's game against South Canterbury at Temuka. All the players chosen have represented Canterbury before with the exception of Howell, the Lancaster Park lefthand bowler. His performances have entitled his getting a place, and if the wickets are soft should justify his inclusion. He and Frankish will have to bear the brunt of the 'bowling. With Sims, Strange and Lawrence only to fall back on, the team will be weak 'here. In batting nearly all the team have been scoring well this year. Many of them are forcing batsmen and should do well even on an " Otago " wicket. In the field the team as <a whole are good, Howell and Wigley being the worst offenders here. Orchard will captain the team. The Christ's College cricket team is returning from Dunedin by express to-day.
