Annual Report.

The following is. tne tenth- annual report I of the League of New Zealand-iWheelmen,: I to-be presented at the annual meeting on J Oct. 13: — ''The Council, in presenting the J I tenth annual report and balance-sheet for

the year ending August 31, 1902, must admit that in' some respects the interest in the sport has declined. From the attached balance-sheet ■ it will be seen that the finances of the League are again in a very healthy condition, showing a credit balance of £?? 9s 6d. Although the balance io hand is £20 less than last year, it must be remembered that the Council expended that amount in sending a representative to Sydney. It is satisfactory to' note that the from affiliated clubs of the 'League stand at about the fame a* laat year. The . New Zealand Championships were allotted respectively to Auckland for amateurs and Invercargill for cash riders. The winners of the championships were :— r Amateur— Half-mile, T. H. Oates; One Mile. H. H. Brook: Three Miles, H. H. Brook; Five Miles, H. H. Brook. Cash-Half-mile, W. Palmer ; One Mile, W. Martin; -Three Miles, W. Martin ; Five Miles, W. Martin- The Council' were again approached by the Australian Federal 'Council with a view to the League Joining that body. After careful consideration the Council "'did not see its way to take; this step, owinp to the expense involved in so doing and the small amount of gain accruing.' Negotiations, however, are now pending, arid at the suggestion of this i^easttie 'a mutual recognition of' riders '.may be agreed upon. To return the visit of the New South Wales Cyclists? Union and to ffive an impetus to amateur cycling, the League 'sent P. Rogers to New South Wales as representing the annteurs of the colony to compete in the One-mile and Five-mile Australasian Championships. He was successful in winning the One-mile an_ in being placed third in the Five-mile. From the centres' {returns it will be seen that there is a marked falling off of licenses and permits. The Enfield Challenge Cup competition resulted *m George Sutherland, of the Christchurch Cycling Cliib, winning the trophy for the third time in. succession, and it therefore now- becomes the property of that -club for; - annual competition amongst its members. The Rudge-Whit-worth Cup is now held by H. H. Brook |
