MIL;TAJIY ENTERTAINMENT. Th© popularity pf the N Battery -wa<s attested last night by the large audie!(icel '■vyliiQh -fflledtbe Lyttelton Qddie|-^'H#* . where a*n entertainment maiply miUtaiy in Character, was given in aid <jf the. uniformi fund of the corps,. In tihe audience \yere the Mayor of Lytteltpn (Mr j. Grubb), the Rev E. E. Chambers, honorary Ghapl^in to the BatteFy, 'SnFgeon-Oaptanr|. Paiiraan, and several efliceus of other cprps. The* pr*gra~min«>was decidedly good, and, in render? ing it, the members of the N Battery received- generous assistance froni other corps. They themselves presented two scenes of camp life— the "Reveille" and the "LaSO Post." Both were effective, the- latter es? peciadly so. They gave displays of physical drill and sword-bayonet exercise^ and, with the help °f their comrades ,of different corps, showed a, highly effective military tableau.: A eatiad of the E Battery, under Serge^t-Maj^r Johnston, went thrpygh ilia cavalry (sword exercise in good style.,. The physical training* and dumbbell exercises. q_ Lbvtenant Prebble's squad > of the Queen's Cadets were admirable. An excellent dis-' play pf cliub-swinging was given- by Mr P^, Moore.'- The clog-dancing of Slr*fT. Jenyns^, Mr Crawford's sailor's hornpipe and a double Irish jig by Messrs T. Jenyns and J. Gilmour were all capitally done. A meditation, " Bussing Oup's Race," wai well giv^n; by Mr Shannon. The musical por? tion of the piogramine was also good-. Aii) orchestra, iiiid^r "Nf r Riprdaai, played a couple of overtures arid the music for the. various military exercises. Miss Lindsay was encored for her singing of " The §olBoy's Motto," as were Miss Empsom and Mr Kmpson for their comic songs. Mr Qv.E. Oollins gave a fine rendering <>£ the "i*»eath of Nelson," and Cplon?-Sergeaiip Douglas, of the Linwood Rifles, sapg " The DeaSless _^rmy," and Bugler. Morgan., ,01 the Medical Staff Corps, " The King's .Own," both very well. Mies MC^rthy Was; qn efficient pianist, and Sergeant WarcUe acted as stage-manager. During an interval the Mayor presented the "Soutih Africant war medal to Trooper. J. M'Lellan,. of the Seventh Centingent, pne of the wounded an Bothasbe^rg^ .
