THE TROTTING TRACK.
""♦■ NOTES ON HORSE AND SULKY. (By DIRECTOR.) I have received a copy of the proceedings at the conference of trotting clubs. Another very prominent candidate for the 2mm 30sec list is the brown stallion, Bentwood, by Baywood (imported), who won the Handicap Trot at Fitzroy (Victoria), encompassing the mile in 2min 33 eeo. • ' A good performance was registered by the imported' mare, Diana Rose, at Richmond (Victoria) racecourse recently. Ably driven by W. W&itburn, she succeeded in beating the Vanoleve gelding, Answer, by about three lengths, trotting the full male in 2min 29sec. Answe^ riddien by thalb bad start. An item of news has been received from America, the trotting stallion, Porto-Rico, a grandson of Electioneer, having trotted a quarter of a mile against time, a* Denver, U.S.A., on July 6, in the world's record time of 29sec. The time was taken by over twenty separate watches. Truly a marvellous performance, a lmin 56sec .gait.
