SOME RECENT TRUE STORIES, Tnit'b stranger than fiction indeed! It is a ridiculojisly inadeqtiat* statement ofl the facts. Take just two or tibiee items from on© clay's paper:— A cyclist named Spring, -while pedalling in Switzerland, was chased by a lion, whick had escaped from Ehibeck menagerie. Alt exciting race finished in favour of Spriaj}. The "stranded destroyer Recruit, &"*wj| herself short "of rockets, fired live AeM instead to draw attention. They bun* over the town of St Just, breaking many windows, but doing no further daaraga. During the inspection, of a new engine at Louburg, in Russia, ao. elderly priest mounted t>he footplate and inadvertently set the engine in motion. Messagwi were" telegraphed along the line to keep iti clear, and eventually the enirine came to % stop for want of water. The pnest w««« mad with fright. . _ . Where, asks the " Westminster Gazette/" is the novelist respecting 'himself or hi» public in the least degree, who wrald JhaTi the audacity to invent such, episodes am thesft? j
