RECEPTION TO RETURNED TROOPERS. One of the most successful gatherings ..•ver held! in the New Brighton district took place- in the Burwood Town Hall on Thursday evening, the residents welcomed tbe troopers of the Sixtih Contingent who belonged to the district. The hall was prettily -decorated with flags and greeneory interspersed with fairy lamps, while the approaohes on the outside were illuminated with strings of fairy lamps, which produced a fkge effect. The proceedings commenced with the singing k of the - National Anthem, after which the Mayor of New Brighton (Mr George M'lntyre), ' vho presides, : in a brief speech welcomed fhe' troopers , home. Sergeants Free, P. CM., and {[arris and Troapera Manning, Collins and Robertson responded, and gave- a short account of their experiences, after which tine evening was devoted to> dancing and harmony. About sixty couples Were present, and songs were given by Messrs 0. and H. Mulhoßand>, Pearson and 1 Petersen. Music was : supplied by Mr ,Dohei*y, and Mr F. WiHjams officiated as H . The catering was in the hands of M: Rattaay, and Mr Charles Mulholland, th s«osetsiry z is to be complimented on tht capable wanner in which everytibingi had been; organised and carried through.
