The resumption, of the Test Match, vas delayed by rain, ■which fell during Ik night and the .early part of the forenoon. Owing to tlhe sodden condition of the •wickets it was 2.55 p.m. before the players took tilt field. Tbe uot-out men of the previous day, Lockwood and Rhodes, escaping the usual fate of so many over-night (partnerships, refused to fee separated. They had no difficulty in negotiating the bowling ot Noble and Howell, and runs came pretty freely till the total reached 376, when 'Maclaren declared the innings closed. (Received May 31, 9 a.m.) The usual pair, Duff and Trumper opened for Australia, Rhodes and, Hirst bowling. Disaster came early, Duff being easily caught by Jessop at forward point when he had anade a couple— one wicket for nine. Hill succeeded. The newcomer took strike and made a single, and then hit Hirst into the slips, (Braimdi taking a right-handed lightning catch— two wickets for ten.
