JToises «milar to the booming sounds reoently heard at Nelson are often heard, Mr Stevenson, F.R.A.S., states, after a §ev«re earthquake or eruptions at a distance, and Bometimeg come before slight ■hocks, and again without any seismic .disturbances. As to the theory that the relative position of the earth with other planets haa a bearing on volcanic disturbances and earthquakes, Mr Stevenson states that if this be so, and the atmospheric conditions are favourable, further disturbances may pccur during the next ten days.
