The Lyttelton Harbour Board has- decayed to spend the sum of £39 in constructing fenders, 4ft wide, to keep vessels from plague-infested ports the regulation) distance from the wharves. It was stated at a meeting of the Board to-day that vessels were required to keep lamps lighted 1 at night when alongside tho wharves, "presumably," one member ranarkedj " so that the rats can see their way to jump on. shore."
