THE EIGHTH CONTINGENT.

LOCALj NOTES. A special formation parade will be held this afternoon, when the men will be finally drafted into their companies. The horses were 'being paraded round the grounds this afternoon at about two ©'clockby grooms and troopers. The majority of them were very frisky and obviously in need of more exercise. The men in camp are most assiduous correspondents. Three (mails were sent out of- camp- yesterday, and the mail sent this morning contained 525 letters. A squad were taken out to the range for shooting practice this morning. Some of tihe men previously members of Volunteer corps are now appearing an ..borrowed plumes in, the shape of uniforms, apparently 'being too enthusiastic to wait until their kit is served out. Two hundred and fifty new saddles are expected tb arrive from Wellington to-day.
