THE DISCOVERY.

_*> STORES FOR THE RELIEF VESSEL, i NEW ZEALAND PRODUCTS REQUIRED. In the course of conversation, with Mr F. Waymoutb, Chairman of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, Captain Scott, of •die Discovery, expressed his surprise at the variety of articles which are produced in this colony, and said that he found it most difficult while in London to get any definite information as to what could be procured here in the way of ship's stores. Before leaving Dunedin, Captain Scott wrote to Mr Waymouth on the matter, and in the course of his letter says: "In thanking you for your many kindnesses, there is yet one other I would ask. It refers to a difficulty which I have experienced rayself in England, that is, a want of knowledge of what can and cannot be obtained in the colonies in the way of preserved provisions, and in general the rate at which they can be got. It would, I know, be of great service to Sir Clement Markham if he could -be made acquainted with som«»of the facts in this connection before he commences to make arrangements for fitting out the relief ship, and if you could send him some ideas on the subject involved, I know, ihe would be extremely grateful. The principal items are the ordinary kinds of preserved and tinned meats, butter, sugar, flour, honey, jams, molasses, canned fish, etc., etc." Mr Waymouth will, therefore, be glad to get particulars from, manufacturers and others of these lines as well as any other provisions likely to be useful, such as condensed, milk, biscuits, preserved vegetables, fruits, pickles, sauces, cheese, candles, soap, woollen clothing, mittens, socks, etc. Any information, with prices, will be sent Home to Sir Clement Markham by the next San Francisco mail. •
