A USEFUL INSTITUTION.
* j One afternoon last year a Parisian lady | saw a young servant girl dissolved in tears j seated on a bench, an a street with, am un- ; j dressed baby on lier kneee. Inquiries elici- j ted the naive confession that sh& 'had been j spending the previous hour in fruitless ef- I forts to arrange the infant's attire, and after hopelessly struggling witQi tlie mysteries of swaddling clothes, had 1 given up the attempt. How was she 'to face the j anxious mother, her mistress, with the child in this undressed fcitate? Despaiir at t_.'o thought had 'driven her to tears. Between the sobs she explained 1 thai-&be had ; that morning accepted a situation as omr- j eerymaid without «ver ha,\'ing iheld a baby : in her arms before. The kindhearted ladydressed the hapless infant, amd determined there and then, to start a school for ser- ! yant girls. The institution, is now a flourishing concern, and' the lady who founded j it has had the satisfaction of turning outfc i several . hundred domestic servants fully equipped for the efficient discharge of their duties in various branches.
