THE CHILDREN'S HOLIDAY .

A SUGGESTION FROM CHEVIOT. THE MOTHERS SHOULD BE INVITED [From Otjr Cobresfondent.] CHEVIOT, Nov. 20. With reference to the sending of children to Christchurch, I have ascertained from the mothers here that they are disinclined to let their children go cut of their sight. It would be a good plan if arrangements could be made to invite the mothers also. Many of the latter are willing and anxious that their children should go, but do nob care to part with them. They have all had a dreadful experience, and ib would be a relief to some of them to get away. They will not be of much assistance to their husbands in the work of .e---storing their homes until they recover their nerve. The Ladies' Committee appointed in connection with the holiday for the Cheviot children met again ifhis m'oraing. It was decided to send a telegram to the authorities at Cheviot, stating that the committee can receive twenty children or more, and that an escort wilf meet them at Waipoara. They also inquired what day would be suitable for- the children to come through. The Mayor of Christchutch has sent the following " telegram to .the Hen W. HollJones at Cheviot :—" Have wired to the Minister for Railways asking for free icturn passes for the Cheviot children inVited to Chrisbchurch, and also for members of Ladies' Committee, who will go as far as Waipara to meet them. ,-If you approve of scheme proposed by the ladies I would wire to the Minister, urging his consent. Mr Balch, of Cheviot can explain the scheme. I will call a public meeting on Friday after seeing you. '
