THE JANET WALDORF SEASON

"INGOMAR." Miss Waldorf again changed her bill on Saturday night, when "Ingomar" was st-a.gr ed for the first time. The version staged was a translation by Miss Marie Lovell from the German of" Von M. Billing H'ansen. Picturesquely dramatic, the story is powerful though simple, and as Parthenia, round whose story the play centres, gives scope for 'much passionate and -emotional acting, Miss Waldorf was given ample opportunity for the display of her undoubted talent. Her characterisation of the heroic Greek girl was nicely outlined, and s»lre played it with just the necessary strength of reserve. Altogether, it- was one of Jr.r best performances in- Christchurch. Mr Norval Macgregor, too, again asserted his ability, his conception of the title role being a powerful and masterly piece of work. It was a good deal more real than arty other of his performances, and the widely diverse passions stirring the barbarian chief were excellently differentiated. His performance, too, was decidedly the most :m---pressive and suggestive he has yet given. The general support was good, though rlie drama is essentially one of 6 wo characters only. Mr Han ray as Polydore, and Mr Douglas as Tiniarch, wore particularly good, and Miss Marie D\Alton's Actia. was also praiseworthy. "Ingomar" was nicely staged and well dressed. In the afternoon there was a good hoiue at the "Romeo and Juliet" matinee, and the charming love tragedy went quite "aa well as on the occasion of its previous presentation. The season will only last for two more nights, " The Lady of Lyons " being announced for to-night and "to-morrow night. In order to give suburban residents an opportunity to witness the performance?, late trams have been arranged for for the remainder of the season.
